Slow Cooker Beer Brats with Sauerkraut

Shopping List
/ IngredientsBeer brat

A package of the best brat buns you can find. Good hot dog buns work just fine

About 10 to 12 fresh pork or beef bratwurst

A couple of onions, white or red. Either works well, chop them up in medium chunks or sliced them in thin rings

Butter, use a half of a stick. We suggest unsalted

Garlic cloves, you will need 3 to 4 peeled and chopped or put through a garlic press. Use less or more depending on your garlic preference

Salt and pepper

Beer, you will need 3 to 4 bottles for this dish. Stout beer is good but any beer works just fine

Mustard, about a 1/4 cup. Yellow, whole grain or fancy mustard works just fine

Sauerkraut. Store bout works well

Put it all together like this

Pour 3 to 4 bottles of beer in your football logo slow cooker and toss in your brats. Let them soak for about 30 minutes. Take them out and either grill them or brown them in skillet. They don’t have to cook long, just enough to brown them.

Put the brats in your slow cooker beer bath, add onion, butter, garlic, mustard and salt and pepper. Add a little extra beer if needed.

Cover and cook for about 4 hours on high or about 7 hours on low. Add a little more beer with 30 minutes left to cook.

Put out the sauerkraut, mustard and brat buns by your cooler of beer and enjoy!
